Repatch / Update Patch in Patch Editor for Fixture Groups?
Repatch / Update Patch in Patch Editor for Fixture Groups?
I can change things easily in the Matrix Generator. But I have several LED panels of different sizes and starting universes that I built in the Patch Editor. I have these in Fixture Groups.
-If I wanted to change the addressing for a matrix that I built inside the Patch Editor, how do I do that? Especially useful when I am adding new fixtures or removing sections.
-I have added new fixtures to a Fixture Group, but in my Layers page I have to remap that part; if I make a change to "Panel 3" and I go to a Cue, the Layer that is mapped to "Panel 3" returns to "Full Size", which is an absolute pain to fix when I have 40 cues with various layers and effects. Is there a way to retain this mapping selection when the Fixture Group changes?

Hello Avocado,
You can easily change the DMX Addressing for selected fixtures in the "Fixture Settings" on the right side of the Patch Editor or in the DMX Map view.
If the settings section is not visible you can easily get it back via "View > Restore Default Windows Layout".
As soon as the Matrix Size will be changed, MADRIX will adjust all Effect to the new size. Doesn't matter if they are mapped via a Group or not.
We are aware that this behavior is not ideal. An improvement on that regard is on our todo list for future MADRIX software releases.

Not working how you explained for groups.
I create a layer that is assigned to a group. I then go in the Patch Editor and add additional fixtures to the group. I go back to the layers, and that layer is now set as "Custom Size" with the original size and position as the group before I added the new fixtures. I then have to re-select the correct group.
Original Group mapped to Group 2:

Adding fixtures to Group 2:

Map changed from Group 2 to Custom:

Reselecting Group 2 to make it correct:

Is this a known issue?

Re: Repatch / Update Patch in Patch Editor for Fixture Groups?
And for changing the Patch.
I can change the starting Universe and have it propagate no problem, even when adding new fixtures to the group. I adjust the DMX Addressing -> DMX Universe, or use the Offset function to march it up. See image for me setting the Universe to 20:

But if there are enough fixtures to roll over to another universe I have to use the "offset" command.
But if I want to change the starting channel (tightening up or shifting over a group due to adding or removing other fixtures), it just sets ALL selected fixtures to the chosen channel:

The offset also doesn't seem to work when I get to the point where a fixture would move on to the next universe.
If I need to make any moderate changes I just need to delete all the fixtures from that area, patch up new ones, reassign them to groups, and then remap every single layer to the groups that they had previously been assigned.

Re: Repatch / Update Patch in Patch Editor for Fixture Groups?
Hello UpLighting,
I think there was a missunderstanding.
You are right. At the moment the behavior of MADRIX after chaning sizes of Groups are the following:
If you will change the pixel size of a group via adding/removing fixtures, the MADRIX effects are not updated yet automatically. At the moment you would need to remap the Effect Layers manually.
But as I wrote in the previous post:
We are aware that this behavior is not ideal. An improvement on that regard is on our todo list for future MADRIX software releases.
Regarding changing DMX Addresses in the Patch Editor:
But can you please elaborate a bit more in detail how you will get the same universe and DMX start channel of the multiselection with the help of the Offset settings?
I tried to reproduce it without the explained result.

Regarding changing DMX Addresses in the Patch Editor:
- * The Offset Values are based on Channels or Universes. That means you will change only one property. That means if you want to modify the Start Channels of selected fixtures via the Offset, it won't swap fixtures in the next universe.
- * If you are using a multiselection and change the concrete values of the DMX Channel or Universe (without Offset), all selected fixtures will be set to the same universe or Start Channel
But can you please elaborate a bit more in detail how you will get the same universe and DMX start channel of the multiselection with the help of the Offset settings?

Re: Repatch / Update Patch in Patch Editor for Fixture Groups?
Offset functioned as expected, until it reached a new universe. If the last fixture us U10C510, and I offset is by 5 channels, instead of it becoming U11C3, I get this error:
"The fixtures' DMX start channels are out of the valid range from 1 to 512! Please change the settings."
But you appear to be aware of this.
If I use the "DMX Universe" or "DMX Channel" option, not the "Offset" option, then it sets all selected fixtures to that Universe or Channel. I was hoping it would set the first fixture and then repatch as I had set it up when using the "Add" function to originally make the matrix, but seems to not be the case.
It seems that if I need to modify fixtures in any moderate to large scale, at this time I just need to delete the affected fixtures and add them in again.
